Marine Recreational Information Program (MRIP) staff will provide a briefing on the new MRIP data with Q&A from 8:30am-10:30am on July 18th.
The new MRIP numbers are scheduled for release on July 2. This briefing will provide an overview of the changes to the recreational fishing effort survey (“FES”) and recreational fishing site catch survey (“APAIS”), as well as how survey statistics are being calibrated. MRIP staff will provide information on how historical effort statistics in our area have changed and will also share before-and-after regional catch/harvest data for summer flounder and black sea bass.
Note: the new MRIP numbers will not be used for quota monitoring until an assessment or assessment update with the new numbers has been completed and taken through the SSC/specifications process. So comparisons between current 2018 quotas and the magnitude of any new MRIP numbers will not be meaningful. MRIP does have a way to back-calibrate the new 2018 numbers into the old units for current quota comparisons, but that’s something that will generated separately.
Webinar connection details will be posted on this page prior to the meeting.
