The Marine Recreational Information Program, or MRIP

NOAA Fisheries is in the process of redesigning how recreational fishing data is collected in order to maximize the accuracy of catch estimates.  The program is known by its acronym "MRIP."

The new program will use angler license frames that have been instituted by states for fishing effort data (trips) and will also redesign the way catch per trip data is collected via shore and dockside surveys.

The best way to keep track of MRIP's progress is by visiting the MRIP website at:

https://www.countmyfish.noaa.gov/

The Council received an update on MRIP and held a listening session on MRIP at its February 2012 meeting.  A recording is available HERE.

Council staffer Jason Didden is on several MRIP work groups/teams.  If you have questions or concerns about MRIP and/or recreational data collection in general he can be reached at (302) 526-5254.
