Council Meeting in Hershey, PA: June 21-24, 2004

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council will meet June 21-24, 2004 at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center, West Chocolate Ave. and University Drive, Hershey, PA, telephone 717-533-3311.

On Monday, June 21, the Atlantic Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish Committee with its Advisory Panel will meet from 1:00-5:00 p.m. and continue through Tuesday, June 22 from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. On Wednesday, June 23, Council will meet from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. On Thursday, June 24, the Executive Committee will meet from 8:00-9:00 a.m. The Research Set-Aside Committee will meet from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Council will meet from 10:00 a.m. until approximately 2:00 p.m.

Monday, June 21
1:00 - 5:00 Squid, Mackerel, Butterfish Committee with Advisors
-Review monitoring committee's recommendations for 2005 quota levels and associated management measures.
-Develop 2005 quota specifications and associated management measures for Council consideration and action.
Tuesday, June 22
8:00 - 12:00 Squid, Mackerel, Butterfish Committee with Advisors
- Discuss status of Amendment 9 Public Hearing Document
- Develop and adopt preferred alternatives for the following:
* Extending the moratorium on entry to the commercial Illex fishery;date
* Allowing for specification of management measures for multiple years;date
* Allowing for the transit of vessels through the U.S. E.E.Z. with Illex caught outside of the U.S. E.E.Z.;
* Revising the current overfishing definition for Loligo squid; date
* Implementing measures to reduce discards; date
* Identifying essential fish habitat for Loligo squid eggs.date
