Peter DeFur

Virginia – Appointed Obligatory Member (1st Term, Exp. 2018)

Peter deFur from Richmond VA, was appointed to the Council in 2015, having previously served on the Council from 2009 to 2012. He is president of the consulting firm, Environmental Stewardship Concepts and has held faculty positions in Biology at three different Universities. His consulting practice includes technical analysis of environmental contamination at more than 20 sites around the country. As a faculty member, he taught and conducted research on risk assessment and environmental studies. Peter has conducted scientific research on a range of coastal and estuarine animals, including some that are managed by the Council. He has served on a wide range of federal advisory committees and on the National Academy of Sciences Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology.  Peter is a recreational angler and has fished all along the east coast. He received B.S. and M.A. degrees from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA and a Ph.D. from the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta.
