The Council’s Scientific and Statistical Committee (SSC) did not change the previously-adopted 2027 spiny dogfish Acceptable Biological Catch (ABC), which would be the same as the 2026 ABC. No Monitoring Committee members had operational issues to raise relevant to changing other previously-adopted 2027 specifications, which would also remain the same as 2026, so this meeting was canceled.

Reviewing the 2027 specifications is still an agenda item for the Council’s October 2026 Meeting, and public comments are accepted before and at that meeting (see meeting link for comment instructions).

The Council’s Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish (MSB) Monitoring Committee was going to meet (webinar) on July 29, 2025 to develop recommendations for the Council regarding upcoming Illex specifications. However the Scientific and Statistical Committee did not make any changes from the status quo (2025) Acceptable Biological Catch (ABC). Staff checked in with the Monitoring Committee via email and no specifications changes appeared warranted, so the meeting was canceled. The Council will still address 2026-2028 Illex specifications at its August 2025 meeting.

The Council’s Mackerel, Squid, and Butterfish (MSB) Monitoring Committee was going to meet (webinar) on May 15, 2025 to develop recommendations for the Council regarding upcoming specifications: Setting 2026-2028 chub mackerel specifications and reviewing 2026 specifications for butterfish and longfin squid. However the Scientific and Statistical Committee did not make any changes to current and/or planned 2026 Acceptable Biological Catches (ABCs), so the Monitoring Committee meeting was not needed and was canceled.

The Council will still address these specifications at its June 2024 meeting.

The Council’s Bluefish Monitoring Committee (MC) will hold a public meeting via webinar on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.. The purpose of this meeting is for the Bluefish MC to review previously adopted 2025 commercial and recreational Annual Catch Limits, Annual Catch Targets, commercial quota, and recreational harvest limit for bluefish and recommend changes as appropriate. In addition, the Monitoring Committee will review commercial and recreational management measures and recommend changes if needed.

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council's Summer Flounder, Scup, and Black Sea Bass (SFSBSB) Monitoring Committee will meet via webinar on Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 9am-1pm.

The purpose of this meeting is to recommend 2025 catch and landings limits for black sea bass, and to review the previously adopted 2025 limits for summer flounder and scup and recommend changes if necessary. In addition, the Monitoring Committee will review coastwide commercial measures for all three species and recommend changes as appropriate.
