GAO Releases Report on Stock Assessment Prioritization and Funding

Last week the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released the results from its review of NMFS stock assessments in a report entitled Fish Stock Assessments: Prioritization and Funding. The study, which was requested in February 2013 by eight U.S. Senators, identifies regional differences in the number and frequency of stock assessments and examines a number of issues related to stock assessment funding and prioritization.
