Council and NOAA Fisheries to Hold Listening Session on Recreational Fishing Policy

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council and NOAA Fisheries will host a public listening session on June 11th from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel in Freehold, New Jersey. Stakeholders are invited to attend the listening session in person or via webinar to provide input for NOAA Fisheries' new recreational saltwater fishing policy.

NOAA selects two areas in the North Atlantic for targeted habitat conservation efforts

NOAA has announced the selection of two sites in NOAA’s North Atlantic Region as the next Habitat Focus Areas under NOAA’s Habitat Blueprint. In the Mid-Atlantic, the agency will focus its habitat  conservation and restoration efforts on the Choptank River complex in Maryland and Delaware.

New Assessment Determines that Butterfish Are Not Overfished

Last month the Northeast Fisheries Science Center released a new butterfish stock assessment which concluded that the stock is not overfished and that overfishing is not occurring. The fishery's status had previously been characterized as "unknown."
